The lead-acid battery is a traditional secondary battery technology, also known as the lead-acid accumulator. It is a device capable of storing and releasing electrical energy and is widely used in various applications, including automobiles, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), electric vehicles, solar energy storage systems, etc.
The lead-acid battery consists of one or multiple battery cells. Each battery cell is composed of an electrolyte (usually sulfuric acid solution) situated between a positive plate and a negative plate. The positive plate is coated with lead dioxide (PbO2), while the negative plate is coated with pure lead (Pb). During the charging process, a current passes through the battery, converting lead sulfate (PbSO4) in the lead-acid electrolyte into lead dioxide and pure lead, thereby storing electrical energy.
During the discharge process, the reaction is reversed, and lead dioxide and pure lead are converted back into lead sulfate, releasing the stored electrical energy.
